5 ton/day Bio-methane Liquefaction Systems

Cryonorm is a strong believer of utilizing biomethane close to the feedstock. It’s preferred to move high caloric bioLNG rather than low caloric digester feedstock to large scale digesters.

For perspective, 5 tons of bioLNG can fuel an Iveco Stralis truck for 16,000 km. This means that just 2.5 days of bioLNG production can power a truck to circumnavigate the globe! With the number of digesters already installed and continually increasing, the potential of biomethane is vast. Many small streams will create a mighty river!

Cryonorm developed a robust and user-friendly bio-methane liquefaction unit utilizing Liquid Nitrogen (LIN) as sacrificial cooling medium.

Key advantages:

-        Lowest possible capital expenditures (CAPEX)
o   With the bio-methane market being relatively new, keeping CAPEX low reduces both depreciation and project risk amidst regulatory changes and price volatility

-        Simplicity of operation
o   Digester sites often lack skilled operators for complex liquefaction processes involving rotating equipment. Our unit is designed for straightforward operation, ensuring efficiency and reliability.

-        Short lead time
o   Lead time of approx. 6 months, significantly shorter than the 1-2 years typically required for alternative processes involving rotating equipment.

Our 5 ton/day biomethane liquefaction unit is designed for seamless operation, capable of automatically starting, stopping, and adjusting to incoming biomethane flow without the need for a process engineer or operator.

This commercially viable solution allows customers to efficiently recover and monetize biomethane produced during anaerobic digestion processes directly at the digester site.

§  Biogas from animal manure and green waste is a perfect source for bioLNG.
§  Prior liquefaction, the bio-methane needs to be dried and purified to achieve the following composition:

·        CH4: 97-99% (v) , CO2: <50 pp (v) , H2O: < 0,1ppm (v) , N2: < 2% (v) , O2: < 0,5% (v)
·        H2S and Ammonia needs to be removed upstream of the purifier unit.
·        Inlet pressure 5-15 barg

§  Based on customer demand, Cryonorm can supply both biogas upgrading plant as well as liquefaction units.
§  Based on customer demand, Cryonorm can supply liquefaction system for LCO2 as well.
§  Fully shop manufactured and tested systems designed for 5 ton/day, bio-LNG storage volumes flexible and to be discussed with the customer.

Skidded design, easy to install and, if required, easily relocate to other gas field or digester.

CO2 Liquefaction Systems

The shortage of CO2 has driven Cryonorm Group to develop small, modular liquefaction systems. Particularly, CO2 generated in digesters holds significant potential, with volumes sufficient to replace fossil LCO2 and meet any LCO2 demand.

At Cryonorm Group, we design and manufacture state-of-the-art CO2 liquefiers tailored to meet diverse industrial needs. Our liquefiers are characterized by:

  • High Efficiency: Advanced cooling technologies ensure minimal energy consumption and optimal performance.
  • Robust Design: Built to withstand rigorous industrial environments, ensuring longevity and reliability.
  • Scalability: Modular designs allow for easy scaling, accommodating both small and large-scale operations.
  • Safety: Equipped with multiple safety mechanisms to handle the low temperatures and high pressures involved in the liquefaction process.

The CO2 liquefaction process in six steps:

  1. Impurity Removal: CO2 is purified using an activated carbon filter.
  2. Compression: The CO2 is compressed with an oil-free, multistage compressor.
  3. Moisture Removal: Moisture is extracted via an automatic molecular sieve dryer.
  4. Liquefaction: Non-condensable gases remain gaseous as CO2 condenses in the liquefier.
  5. Extraction: Non-condensables are extracted during the liquefaction process.
  6. Storage: Purified, liquid CO2 is stored in an insulated tank for various uses.

Applications of Liquefied CO2:

  1. Food and Beverage: Used for carbonation in soft drinks and as a refrigerant in food preservation.
  2. Chemical Manufacturing: Essential in the production of certain chemicals and materials.
  3. Greenhouses: Increasing CO2 levels to boost productivity.
  4. Oil and Gas: Applied in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes.
  5. Environmental Management: Utilized in carbon capture and storage (CCS) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Argon Reliquefiers

Argon is one of the most valuable gases, comprising less than 1% of the air by volume. Its extraction is challenging, typically achieved through the fractional distillation of liquid air. Venting boil-off Argon gas from your flat-bottom tank results in significant waste. To address this, we have developed a simple reliquefaction unit that uses liquid Nitrogen (LIN) as a sacrificial cooling medium.

In your air separation plant, the availability of LIN makes it the ideal cooling medium to recover your valuable Argon. Our system is designed to be robust and reliable, eliminating the need for additional rotating equipment.

Key Features:

  • Efficiency: Uses readily available LIN from your air separation plant for cooling, making the process cost-effective and efficient.
  • Simplicity: The design is straightforward, requiring minimal maintenance and operational oversight.
  • Reliability: Built to be durable and dependable, ensuring consistent performance without the need for complex machinery.

By implementing our reliquefaction unit, you can significantly reduce Argon losses and improve the overall efficiency of your operations. This system not only conserves valuable resources but also enhances the sustainability of your processes.

Applications:

  • Air Separation Plants: Optimize Argon recovery and minimize waste.
  • Industrial Gas Storage: Enhance the efficiency of Argon storage in flat-bottom tanks.
  • Various Industries: Ideal for any industry relying on the use of Argon.

Cryonorm is committed to providing innovative solutions that maximize resource utilization and operational efficiency. Our Argon reliquefiers are a testament to this commitment, offering a practical and effective way to recover and reuse this valuable gas.
